Asian Ministry at St. Paul's

Gilbert & Uzma David have been working as Parish Workers for Ethnic Minorities, with a special emphasis on Asians, since September 2005.  They are mission partners with Crosslinks.

The origins of Asian Ministry at St. Paul's Church

In April 1988, a Finnish Lutheran missionary came to Slough and started ministering to Ethnic minorities in the Parish of St. Paul.  It was the desire of the then Vicar, Rev. Gerald Kaye, to have a couple who would work among Asians who live within the Parish.  This role was taken up by Norman and Denise Critchell, who are also Crosslinks Mission partners.  Their main emphasis was to build up good relationships and friendships with the Asians, and to make themselves available for help, service and ministry in many different ways.  When the Critchells moved on to other ministries, the Parish decided to seek Parish Workers to continue and develop this ministry.  This led to the employment of Wilson and Rebecca Gill as our first Parish Workers between July 2000 and September 2005, when Wilson moved on to be ordained and take a post as a Curate in Aylesbury.

The Parish Worker posts have now been filled by Gilbert & Uzma David, who have been members of St. Paul's for several years.
