Ray Lewis
Ray Lewis is a core member of the PCC and is the church treasurer since 1985 who previously worshipped at Christchurch in Slough.
In his own words : “I have lost track of how long I have been the PCC Treasurer, but it is a long time. Whilst I am not a qualified accountant, I have worked for a Bank for nearly 40 years and in recent years have held various management positions in the Finance Team (which is all about accountancy and not about providing loans).
The role of PCC Treasurer has changed significantly over the years. Increasing legislation, including the need to meet Charity Law and it’s associated financial requirements, has placed a huge responsibility onto the role. Unfortunately it is no longer a position that anyone without a reasonable knowledge of accruals accounting can undertake – which is a shame as it restricts the number of people in the congregation who can aspire to the role.
I spend a few hours each week dealing with financial matters, paying the bills and keeping the records up to date, including issuing regular monthly financial updates to the PCC. The real work, however, comes in January when the formal Annual Report and Accounts has to be produced – which takes a large amount of time.
God has given me a talent for figures, which I am very happy to use as my “gift” in service to the Church.”
